TRAINER COURSES

 
Two types of Trainer Courses are available: The basic Trainer Course is designed for departments to set up and maintain a K-9 program. The other Trainer Course takes an individual from start to finish with a K-9. This individual must have at least five years experience as a K-9 handler to be eligible for this course.
   
 
     
OBEDIENCE

 
This course is designed for basic obedience of your K-9. This course lasts for four weeks. The K-9 will be kenneled at our facility for the first two weeks for intense training, and the next two weeks the handler will be involved in the training of the K-9. Re-enforcement training will be available for the first year at no charge.
   
 
     
CERTIFICATIONS

 
Detection - Drugs or Bombs - 180 hours of training is required. Included are classroom, vehicle searches, room searches, open area searches. Weekly testing with a final exam and 85 percent average is required.
Patrol - 180 hours of training is required. Included are vehicle bailouts, K-9 call-off, suspect extraction, building searches, open area searches, K-9 suspect escort, muzzle control, and miscellaneous tactical exercises.
Dual Purpose - Drugs or Bombs, and Patrol - A minimum of 280 hours is required to receive certification. Included are classroom, vehicle searches, room searches, open area searches, vehicle bailouts, K-9 call-off, suspect extraction, building searches, K-9 suspect escort, muzzle control, and miscellaneous tactical exercises. Weekly testing with a final exam and 85 percent average is required.
Tracking
- 180 hours of training is required. This will include short tracks, long track, bailout tracking, various surface tracking, evidence recovery. Weekly testing with a final exam and a 95 percent average is required. The final exam will include a one and a half mile track.
     
 
RE-CERTIFICATION
   
 
You must re-certify yearly with a score of 85 percent or above for renewal to maintain your certificate. Classroom and any updated training will be provided. The cost of this is $150 per K-9 team.
